The technology budget you are about to forget half of.

The lines companies miss at budget time, already listed. Tell it your headcount and last year's spend, and the lines that follow from those work themselves out. The hard part of budgeting is not the arithmetic. It is remembering what belongs on the page.

Nothing leaves your browser. Every figure is calculated on your own device and saved only in this browser so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent anywhere, no account is needed, and the Clear button wipes it.

Start here

First, who is on the payroll.

One extra person does not add one line to a budget. It adds a mailbox, a laptop, a set of licences, a training allowance and a share of the insurance. Put the headcount in once here and every line that depends on it follows.

Headcount and payroll

Next year's headcount, not this year's. Departments are yours to rename, add or remove.

The lines

Then work down the list.

Use last year's actual spend, not last year's budget. Actuals are evidence; a budget is a guess that has already been proven wrong once. Where a line is really a rate of something else, press the ƒ button and pick what it follows. The guide ranges are indicative for a Saudi mid-market company, in riyals and excluding VAT.

Technology as a share of revenue

Technology spend commonly runs 2% to 5% of revenue for a traditional business and 8% to 15% for a technology-led one. Variance by sector is wide, so treat it as a direction check rather than a target.

Classify every line before finance asks you to cut ten per cent. Knowing in advance which lines can actually move is the difference between giving a briefing and having a negotiation.

If it would help

Bring the draft and we will go through it together.

We start with a short call, around thirty minutes, no fee and no pitch. If it is worth continuing, we send a private link for the full ninety-minute session, and you leave that one with a written note on what is missing, what looks thin, and which lines will be challenged. Whether or not we work together afterwards.

If the budget you just built is larger than you expected, the usual reason is unmanaged supplier and subscription spend. That is what Cost and Revenue Optimisation is for, and it carries no fee unless it recovers something.
